Refuting the False Yamani Doctrine

This Website aims to critically Examine and Expose the false Claims of the Yamani movement using Qur’anic Evidence and Authentic Twelver Shīʿī sources.

Infallibility, Imamate, and the Yamani Claim: A Shīʿī Theological Response

Part 1 – Summary of the Yamani Movement’s Claims

Followers of Ahmad al-Hasan (also called “Yamani”) claim the following:

1.      The Yamani is an infallible divine proof (ḥujjah).

2.      Whoever rejects him is destined for Hell.

3.      He is the First Mahdi from the alleged “12 Mahdis after Imam al-Mahdi (ʿa).”

4.      His name is Ahmad, from Basra, with specific physical signs.

5.      The Yamani must be obeyed absolutely, like the Imams.

6.      The Yamani is mentioned in Qur’ān 74 (Sūrat al-Muddaththir).

7.      He is divinely appointed and identified by hadith.

These claims are mainly built upon:

  • Select narrations about al-Yamani
  • A controversial “Will of the Prophet” narration
  • Symbolic Qur’ānic interpretations
  • Self-identification by Ahmad al-Hasan

Part 2 – Who Is al-Yamani in Authentic Shīʿī Sources?

The Yamani is mentioned in Shīʿī hadith as a sign before the ظهور (appearance) of Imam al-Mahdi (ʿa).

Hadith of Imam al-Bāqir (ʿa)

Source:
al-Nuʿmānī, al-Ghaybah, p. 264

Translation:
“There is no banner more guided than the banner of the Yamani. It is a banner of guidance because he calls to your companion (the Mahdi).”

Important Observations

  • The Yamani calls to Imam al-Mahdi, not to himself
  • He is a supporter, not a new Imam
  • No mention of infallibility
  • No name, location, or lineage specified

Part 3 – False Claim #1: “The Yamani Is Infallible”

Shīʿī Doctrine on Infallibility

Infallibility (ʿiṣmah) is only for:

  • Prophets
  • The Twelve Imams (ʿa)

Qur’ān

(Qur’ān 33:33)

Translation:
“Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you completely.”

This verse refers only to the Prophet, Fāṭimah, ʿAlī, Ḥasan, and Ḥusayn (ʿa), as confirmed in Ṣaḥīḥ Shīʿī sources.

Hadith

Imam al-Ṣādiq (ʿa):

Source: al-Kāfī, vol. 1

Translation:
“We are the infallible Imams.”

No narration ever states that any Mahdi after Imam al-Mahdi is infallible.

Part 4 – False Claim #2: “There Are 12 Mahdis After Imam al-Mahdi”

This claim relies mainly on a weak and disputed narration about the Prophet’s will.

The Problem

  • The narration is khabar al-wāḥid
  • Contradicts mutawātir Shīʿī belief
  • Opposes hundreds of hadith stating:

Hadith of Imam al-Bāqir (ʿa)

Source: Kamal al-Dīn, Shaykh Ṣadūq

Translation:
“The Qāʾim from us is the last of the Imams.”

Imam al-Ṣādiq (ʿa):

Source: al-Ghaybah, al-Ṭūsī

Translation:
“There is no Imam after him.”

The Imamate ends with Imam al-Mahdi (ʿa).

Part 5 – False Claim #3: “Rejecting the Yamani = Hellfire”

Only Allah’s appointed proofs can make rejection a matter of salvation or damnation.

Qur’ān

(Qur’ān 17:15)

Translation:
“We do not punish until We send a Messenger.”

Shīʿī Principle

Only:

  • Prophets
  • Infallible Imams

are ḥujjahs whose rejection leads to punishment.

The Yamani is a sign, not a divine proof.

Part 6 – False Claim #4: Interpreting Qur’ān 74 for the Yamani

Ahmad al-Hasan’s followers claim Sūrat al-Muddaththir refers to him.

Reality

The sūrah speaks about:

  • Disbelievers
  • Hell
  • Resurrection
  • Moral accountability

There is no explicit mention of:

  • Yamani
  • Mahdi
  • Successor
  • Ahmad

Shīʿī tafsīr works like:

  • Tafsīr al-Qummī
  • al-Mīzān
  • Majmaʿ al-Bayān

Never interpret it this way.

Part 7 – False Claim #5: “Yamani Must Be Obeyed Like an Imam”

Imam al-Ṣādiq (ʿa):

Source: Maʿānī al-Akhbār

Translation:
“Beware of appointing a man instead of the Divine Proof and believing everything he says.”

Scholars, supporters, and signs do not replace the Imam.

Part 8 – Who Can Claim Divine Authority?

Imam al-Mahdi (ʿa) said:

Source: al-Ghaybah, al-Ṭūsī

Translation:
“Whoever claims direct authority before the Sufyānī and the Heavenly Cry is a liar and fabricator.”

Ahmad al-Hasan:

  • Claimed divine appointment
  • Claimed leadership
  • Claimed infallibility

This contradicts the Imam’s warning.

Part 9 – The Real Role of al-Yamani

According to authentic Shīʿī hadith:

Feature

Reality

Status

Supporter

Role

Calls to Imam al-Mahdi

Authority

Not infallible

Identity

Unknown

Mission

Preparatory

Leadership

Under Imam

Final Conclusion

The Yamani Movement’s Claims Are:

Theologically invalid
Hadith-unsupported
Doctrinally dangerous
Contrary to Imamate principles
Based on weak narrations
Mixed with self-identification

Twelver Shīʿī Islam Teaches:

  • Only 12 Imams
  • Imam al-Mahdi is the final divine authority
  • No infallible Mahdis after him
  • No new religious leaders
  • Signs ≠ Proofs

Closing Statement

Every false claimant in history used the Mahdi’s name.
But the true Mahdi does not need representatives who declare themselves infallible.
